Scanning FAQs
-
Archival scanning creates a high-resolution digital master of your artwork or photograph, capturing fine detail and accurate colour. The resulting file can be used for reproduction, printing, publishing or long-term digital archiving.
-
Professional scanning captures significantly more detail and colour accuracy than a phone camera or domestic scanner. It provides a high-quality master file that can be used repeatedly for prints, exhibitions and publications.
-
We scan most two-dimensional artwork, including paintings, drawings, watercolours, prints, photographs and mixed media. If you're unsure whether your artwork is suitable, just ask.

You'll receive a high-resolution JPEG created using our Cruse scanner. The files are exceptionally detailed and suitable for archival purposes, fine art reproduction and large-format giclée printing. Our JPEG files provide outstanding image quality while remaining much more practical to store, share and work with than very large TIFF files.

When made correctly, giclée prints offer exceptional detail, accurate colour reproduction and excellent longevity, making them the preferred choice for artists, photographers and galleries.

It is best to use a loseless transfer service such as WeTransfer and send the file or files to mark@thecopperhouse.ie.
If you send an image by attaching it to an email there is a high chance the image quality will be compromised so it is always advised to use a transfer service.
-
JPEG and TIFF are suitable. TIFF files are generally preferred for the highest quality, but a high-resolution JPEG is often perfectly adequate.
-
Please save your images in Adobe RGB {1998} colour at 300dpi resolution at the output size that includes all borders if borders are required.
For best results, we recommend files that will print at around 300dpi at the final print size. This is the optimum resolution for printing on our Canon Pro 6100. Don't worry if you're unsure—we're happy to check your file before printing.
-
Not necessarily. Every screen displays colour differently, and most screens are brighter than paper. Our printers are professionally colour-managed to produce accurate, consistent results, but slight differences between screen and print are normal.
